Merchants and Retailers
Merchant and retailer intelligence shows you which retailers AI cites when it recommends products in your category — along with the prices those retailers are shown at, how often each one comes up, and the conversations behind every mention.
It's part of Shopping & Product Visibility. For the wider picture of how Genezio tracks the way AI talks about your individual products, start with Product Visibility.
Why It Matters
When an answer engine recommends a product, it usually points the shopper at somewhere to buy it. Those retailers are effectively the shelf your product sits on inside AI answers — and you don't control who's on it.
Knowing which retailers dominate that shelf, and at what prices, tells you:
- Where to focus retail and channel relationships. The retailers AI leans on most are the ones worth investing in.
- Where your pricing looks wrong. The prices AI surfaces are the prices shoppers see. If they don't match your intent, that's a channel conversation.
- Which retailers you're missing from entirely. If a retailer keeps coming up for your category but never carries you, that's a visible gap.
What the Merchant Drawer Shows
The merchant drawer is where retailer intelligence lives. Open a retailer and you get:
- Retailer share of voice — how much of the retailer citation in your category that merchant accounts for. This is the "how big is their shelf" number.
- Prices — the prices associated with that retailer in AI answers.
- Occurrences — how many times the retailer showed up.
- The conversations behind each one — the actual AI conversations where the retailer was cited, so every number traces back to something you can read.
That last point matters most. Share of voice tells you a retailer is big; the conversations tell you why AI keeps pointing shoppers there.
The Shopping Overview dashboard also carries a total-retailers card, giving you the count of distinct retailers AI cites across your category at a glance. See Shopping Overview.
How to Open It
- Go to the shopping area of the Genezio dashboard and open Shopping Overview.
- Check the total-retailers card for the size of the retailer landscape in your category.
- Open the retailer view and select a merchant to open the merchant drawer.
- Read share of voice, prices, and occurrences at the top of the drawer.
- Open the linked conversations to see the exact answers where that retailer was cited.
How to Read It
Work down from the biggest shelf:
- Start with share of voice. The top few retailers usually account for most of what AI recommends in your category. Those are the relationships that matter.
- Then look at prices. Compare what AI surfaces against what you expect that retailer to be showing. Mismatches are a pricing or feed problem worth raising with the channel.
- Use occurrences for consistency. A retailer that appears often is a durable part of the category shelf, not a one-off.
- Read the conversations. They tell you the context — which questions, which products, which comparisons put that retailer in the answer.
Connecting to a Product's Retailer Offers
Retailer intelligence works in both directions.
The merchant drawer starts from the retailer: who does AI cite in my category? A product's detail drawer starts from the product: it shows retailer offers with prices and links, and which retailers carry it. See Product Details.
Together they let you go from "this retailer dominates my category" to "and here's whether my products are actually on their shelf, at what price." Use Products to move between individual products.
What You Can Act On
- Channel and retail relationships. Prioritize the retailers AI actually cites, not just the ones with the biggest offline footprint.
- Pricing checks. Compare surfaced prices across retailers and flag the ones that misrepresent your product.
- Absence gaps. Identify retailers that appear repeatedly in your category but don't carry your products, and treat them as distribution targets.
- Evidence for internal conversations. Every figure links back to real conversations, so channel and pricing discussions can be grounded in what AI is telling shoppers rather than in assumptions.
Availability
Shopping & Product Visibility, including merchant and retailer intelligence, is an enterprise feature. It is switched on for a brand by the Genezio team based on your contract — there is no self-serve toggle. If you don't see the shopping area in your dashboard, contact the Genezio team.
Products and retailers are auto-detected from AI conversations only. There is no upload, feed, crawl, or manual entry — if a retailer appears in the merchant drawer, it's because AI cited it in a real conversation.
