Conversations
In Genezio, a conversation represents a single execution of a scenario against a specific AI system.
Conversations are the events where Genezio interacts with an answer engine and records the results used for analysis.
Each conversation is therefore an instance of a scenario executed with a particular answer engine.
Scenario -> Conversation
The relationship between scenarios and conversations is straightforward.
A scenario defines the situation and goal of the persona.
A conversation occurs when Genezio executes that scenario with an AI system.
For example:
- Scenario: "A startup founder looking for a CRM to manage early leads"
- answer engine: ChatGPT
Running this scenario with ChatGPT creates one conversation.
If the same scenario is executed with multiple AI systems, multiple conversations are created.
Example:
- Scenario: CRM for startups scenario | Answer Engine: ChatGPT | Conversation: Conversation A
- Scenario: CRM for startups scenario | Answer Engine: Claude | Conversation: Conversation B
- Scenario: CRM for startups scenario | Answer Engine: Gemini | Conversation: Conversation C
Each of these conversations may produce different responses, citations, and brand mentions.
Single-Turn vs Multi-Step Conversations
The structure of a conversation depends on the Genezio Agent type.
Prompter Agent Conversations
For Prompter Agent topics, the conversation consists of a single message.
The scenario itself becomes the prompt and is sent word-for-word to the AI system.
Example prompt:
User query: What CRM should a startup use?
The AI response is captured and analyzed.
Multi-Step Conversations
For Recommender Agent, Introspector Agent, and Comparer Agent topics, conversations are multi-step.
In these cases:
- The scenario defines the initial situation.
- Genezio generates prompts dynamically.
- The conversation may include several back-and-forth turns.
These interactions simulate how a real user might explore a topic with an AI assistant.
Conversations and Answer Engines
Genezio runs conversations across multiple answer engines.
Examples include:
- ChatGPT
- Claude
- Gemini
- Perplexity
- Google AI Overview
Running scenarios across different AI systems allows Genezio to measure how brand visibility varies between platforms.
Special Case: Google AI Overview
Google AI Overview behaves differently from conversational AI assistants.
Instead of interacting with a conversational prompt, AI Overview is triggered by something closer to a web search query.
Because of this difference:
- Genezio converts prompts into search-style queries when interacting with AI Overview.
- These queries resemble what a user might type into a Google search box.
Example:
Conversation prompt:
User query: What CRM should a startup use?
AI Overview query:
Query fanout: best CRM for startups
Genezio generates these queries automatically.
However, users can override the generated query if they want to test a specific search formulation.
Conversation Data
Each conversation produces a structured set of data that Genezio analyzes.
This includes:
- the prompts sent to the AI
- the responses generated by the model
- brands mentioned in the response
- sources cited
- follow-up searches (called query fanouts) explored by the system
This data forms the foundation for metrics such as AI Recommendations, AI Visibility, share of voice, and competitive analysis.
Conversation Detail View
Genezio provides a conversation detail view where users can inspect the results of a specific conversation.
This view allows you to see:
- the full conversation between Genezio and the AI system
- the prompts sent during each turn
- the responses generated by the model
- extracted query fanouts
- detected citations
- mentioned brands and competitors
This level of transparency helps teams understand exactly why a brand appeared-or did not appear-in an AI response.
Why Conversations Matter
Conversations are the core unit of analysis in Genezio.
Every visibility metric, insight, and competitor analysis is derived from the results of many conversations executed across topics, personas, and AI systems.
By analyzing these interactions at scale, Genezio provides a measurable view of how AI systems represent brands.
